James Higgins Yoga - July 2012
Greetings....All my best to you and yours. Welcome to my newsletter for July. Summer is upon us and half of 2012 is over.....
Time is flying!
Some quotes to begin...
"Your soul knows the geography of your destiny. Your soul alone has the map of your future, therefore you can trust this indirect, oblique side of yourself. If you do, it will take you where you need to go, but more important it will teach you a kindness of rhythm in your journey." - John O'Donohue
"Our deepest calling is to grow into our own authentic self-hood, whether or not it conforms to some image of who we ought to be. As we do so, we will not only find the joy that every human being seeks~~we will also find our path of authentic service in the world." - Parker Palmer

Finding the deepest Truths...
This months theme is ultimately about merging with the deepest truths that lie within the very heart of our lives and our unique individual souls destiny. To connect with and find this place of lively inner vitality it is so helpful to have a strong set of values or convictions which inspire and mobilize the energies necessary to move toward this higher calling. This calling is about listening to the still moments of life when all the distractions fall away and we are suddenly alone with ourselves. This calling seems to come from both inside and outside of us at the same time. One and the same, it is the moment when we acknowledge that certain mechanisms must be retired and let go of so that we can honestly move forward with clarity and our personal integrity in tact. Its time to make a stand and take our lives in a clear concise direction that leads to personal empowerment and authentic expression. Yoga and meditation truly support this deeper development and process of transformation. We learn to take actions based on a maturing intuition which supports life in an affirmative way. This affirmative stance is one which is of great service to the greater well being of life outside of our individual selves. When we are able to surrender some of our protective fortifications and allow ourselves honest intimacy with our hearts and minds life has a tendency to reveal many treasures which feed the path of physical and emotional nurturing.
Developing Self Trust...
There is an open invitation from life to continually face the inner and outer obstacles we are confronted with in order to reach within and become more of who we are. By facing life we wouldn't stand in resistance or attempt to defeat something in an egotistical way, we would actually merge with the challenges from a centered place. We can take the risk to have the open conversation to get to the heart of the matter rather than avoiding what is painfully obvious. This could be an opportunity to find the courage necessary to live with the open vulnerability of love. Its an empowered action. We can build great character by facing whatever it is that is in the way of living our dreams. I have found over time that when I'm ready to enter this deeper relatedness I am taking everyone else I know with me in some inter-connected way. I feel that when I'm able to make clear realizations into truth some bigger part of life opens up and it is reflected in my professional and personal life.
I feel there is a higher calling inside everyone's hearts and minds. Taking time to listen internally to what has significant personal meaning and the magical inspired intentions we harbor inside our hearts and minds is such a rewarding endeavor. This deep listening can be further developed by meditation and yoga. Other supportive ways to listen are taking time in nature, doing a meaningful spiritual practice, setting time aside for prayer, doing a ritual, lighting candles and incense, reading poetry, playing music, journaling, and having quiet time alone time to heal and mend what need attended to. With loving attention these things lead to a wholeness of spirit. They lead to personal growth, love and kindness, soul development, inner joy, spiritual connection, and further seeking a path of higher learning.
We can ignore ourselves and deeper truths for only so long. Eventually life will show us what we must face. We can run and hide and yet these learnings and yearnings, these inner longings are always churning in some invisible realm. Just pretending they aren't there at all and denying these truths of our spiritual lives is a sure way to fit in to the continually moving target of the status quo. At some point looking good in the status quo will fail. In this day and age I believe more and more people are up to the task of authentic living and spiritual development and facing the challenges that life presents in a more honest way. This style of transformation living ultimately reveals our truest self beyond the ego. The spirit shines inside and helps us live with a clear understanding of who we are beyond appearances.
The pathway to encounter our souls inner calling with honesty and clarity is a lifelong process rich with reward. The rewards are beyond the material plane, yet they serve the material plane of living with meaning and purpose. It's knowing something inside that we really want much more of. This intimacy with life is an internal compass point which nourishes the body, mind, heart, and soul on the true path of love. This directional navigation system of intuitive wisdom creates a sense of knowing which shapes a beautiful spiritual life. Interestingly the word Sage means "To taste." We taste and experience this knowledge beyond the material plane. We become sages ourselves, loving people who want to be free and touch life intimately and profoundly within our selves, in others, and in our work in the world.
I hope you enjoyed my newsletter for this month. May you continue to taste and touch your well-being in ever more present ways. May the second half of 2012 bring all you need to live more peacefully and happily in this amazing time of powerful change we all live in.
I hope to see you in class or in one of my workshops or retreats in the coming days ahead...
